The nominations for the 2009 Choice Music Awards were posted today on Jim Carroll's blog - On the Record - this afternoon (the fallout was rather amusing). While I don't agree with all the albums on the list (I just don't get Messiah J & the Expert and the Script are dreadfully bland pop/rock), it still represents a fairly solid year of Irish releases.
The list reads as:
The list reads as:
- Fight Like Apes “Fight Like Apes and the Mystery of the Golden Medallion” (Model Citizen)
- Mick Flannery “White Lies” (EMI)
- Halfset “Another Way of Being There” (Casino Gravity Records)
- Lisa Hannigan “Sea Sew” (Own label)
- David Holmes “The Holy Pictures” (Canderblinks)
- Jape “Ritual” (Co-Op)
- Messiah J & The Expert “From The Word Go” (Inaudible)
- Oppenheimer “Take The Whole Mid-Range And Boost It” (Fantastic Plastic)
- R.S.A.G. “Organic Sampler” (Psychonavigation)
- The Script “The Script” (Sony Music)
More notable about the nominations are the albums that did not make; for example there was no Spook of the Thirteenth Lock, Katie Kim or Chequerboard. Although I'm not a fan, there was still a belief that Adebisi Shank would be up there with their debut.
As of now, the Script are firm favourites, but the Choice Awards has surprised in the past (Devine Comedy in 2006 and Super Extra Bonus Party in 2007 for example) and the chance of another shock winner are always high on the cards. Personally I'm going for Jape to get the prize (and the cash).
All the info are screaming can be found at the "fallout" link above.
(*apologies to Una - I thought you were having a go at me)
Current listening:
Prdctv "MySpace Demos"
